of Queen Scouts - Windsor Castle
  26th April 2015
The band performing in the Quadrangle
On Sunday 26th April the 1st Claygate Scout & Guide Band were honoured by being asked to play at the National St George's Day Parade of Queen Scouts. The annual event dates back to 1934 and is held within Windsor Castle by gift of Her Majesty the Queen. Each year a different Scout Band are invited to play along side the band of The Coldstream Guards.
The celebrations bring together various groups and their invited guests to share in this prestigious and special event. The day recognises Queen's Scouts, who have worked hard to achieve the highest youth award within Scouting, and Gallantry award holders, who have been nominated for their bravery and heroism. It also celebrates adult award holders, who have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to Scouting as a volunteer.
In the morning, Queen's Scouts form up in Victoria Barracks for a rehearsal, while adult award holders take part in a Mattins service in St George's Chapel.
At 1pm and before the official proceedings began the band entertained the 2,000 strong invited guests in the quadrangle of the castle to a 20 minute display of music, marching and drill. The band then left the quadrangle and joined the rear of the main parade. (see page 2)
